A Single-Cell Electroporation Model for Quantitatively Estimating the Pore Area Ratio by High-Frequency Irreversible Electroporation

The electroporation technique utilizes pulsed electric fields to induce porous defects in the cell membrane, and can be used for delivering drugs into cells killing cancer cells. To develop an pulse protocol clinic with this technique, key issue is understand evolution of pores membrane during process electroporation. This paper presents a study address issue. Specifically, mathematical model single-cell (SCE) was developed, which includes pore area ratio (PAR) as indicator dynamics weight considering 3D nature employed simulate single different high-frequency irreversible (H-FIRE) protocols. simulation result has found that change PAR respect time duration follows sigmoid pattern increase under specific protocols, called cumulative effect PAR. Subsequently, relationship between H-FIRE, described by set parameters such width, delay, field strength, burst duration, established, thereby allows designing kill effectively. concluded proposed SCE model, along PAR, useful H-FIRE protocols ablation tumors clinic.
